Microneedling
Your Skin's Own Repair Process, Turned Up
Microneedling with SkinPen works by creating thousands of tiny channels in the skin, each one small enough to heal quickly but significant enough to trigger a real repair response. Your body reads those microchannels as injuries and floods the area with new collagen and elastin. Over the following weeks, that fresh collagen smooths texture, softens scars, and firms the skin from within.
SkinPen was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA for skin improvement, and it remains one of the most reliable tools we have for texture concerns. At June Medical, Dr. Vanessa Vélez Martínez adjusts needle depth by area and by concern, treating acne scarring on the cheeks differently than fine lines around the eyes.

What Microneedling Treats and How the Series Works
This treatment addresses fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and surgical scars, uneven pigmentation, stretch marks, and enlarged pores. It works on the face, neck, décolletage, and body, and it is safe across all skin tones, which matters here in Puerto Rico where sun exposure and pigment concerns go hand in hand.
A session takes about thirty minutes after numbing cream has had time to work. Expect redness that looks a bit like a sunburn for one to two days, and possibly some light flaking as your skin turns over. Most patients need three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with improvement building steadily between visits as new collagen forms.
Why microneedling has earned its place in our San Juan treatment menu.

How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Most patients do a series of three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Fine lines and general texture often respond in three, while deeper acne scarring usually needs five or six. Dr. Vélez will give you a realistic number after looking at your skin.
Is microneedling painful?
We apply topical numbing cream and give it time to fully take effect, so most patients feel pressure and vibration more than pain. Bonier areas like the forehead can feel more intense, but the treatment is short and very manageable.
What does recovery actually look like?
Your skin will be pink and feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn, for about twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Some patients notice light flaking on day three or four. We will send you home with aftercare instructions and advise staying out of direct sun while you heal.
Can microneedling be combined with PRP?
Yes, and it is a popular pairing. Applying platelet rich plasma to freshly microneedled skin lets those growth factors absorb deeply, which tends to speed healing and improve the overall result. Ask Dr. Vélez whether it makes sense for your goals.
